Direct Fix
This method is used to fix battens direct to trusses or ceiling joists using fasteners through each flange.
When using Perimeter angle or channel, the battens can be fixed to angle using one waferhead screw.
Where girder trusses are used, or the primary framing changes direction, trimmers should be fitted to ensure the maximum spans specified are not exceeded.
Channel & Clips
The channel and clip installation method allows for levelling of the ceiling framing, as well as independent movement of the ceiling.
Batten hangers should be fixed to the side of the truss or ceiling joist firstly by nailing or screwing through the central slot in the batten hanger.
Batten hangers can adjusted by string line or laser level until they are all level. Secondary nails or screws can be put through the batten hanger after levelling and the batten can be simply snapped into position.
Where the ceiling is to be constructed to the underside of a trafficable floor, it is recommended that this method should be used.
Noise Control Systems – where required, such as in situations where mid-floor levels form “inter-tenancy” barriers, specially designed noise control clips can be fitted.
Strongback System
This system is ideal for applications where larger voids need to be created to facilitate the installation of ducts and vents.
The strong-back system is also ideal for installations where the substrate is unsuitable to fix to, either directly or with clips. One example where we used this system is of an old farmhouse renovation in Muriwai where the roof trusses did not have suitable truss chords to fix regular clips to. By using the strong-back system we effectively created a suitable substrate and the result was a perfectly flat, true ceiling.
